How long ago did you sense in your, kind of deep down in your own heart or soul, that you had some kind of an inclination or a penchant for Pediatrics?<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Kimberly Bolen:<\/strong><\/p>\n

So I did not think I was going to do Pediatrics. I was like \u201cI like children but I don\u2019t want to do Pediatrics\u201d. And then in medical school, it was kind of my third year of medical school and I’ve kind of done. I was kind of going through my rotations because we go around and we kind of go into every little area and went on to Pediatrics it was like \u201cAll right, I was wrong. This is it\u201d. I just loved the children and I love the medicine of it too and it was just fun, like I’ve enjoyed it more than anything else that I did. And before that I kind of liked everything I was like \u201cI like this, I can do this, I can do this\u201d but once I got to my pediatric rotation I just knew that was it, I’d been wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ronnie Wilson:<\/strong><\/p>\n

What was it, like what happened or what did you see, even if it’s not an exact experience, what are the characteristics or attributes or flavor of it that draw you in so much, do you think?<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Kimberly Bolen:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think it’s just fun. I mean kids, even when kids are sick they’re fun, they don’t want to be sick so you just walk in and they don’t even know that they’re sick half of the time or most of the time. And so you know even if someone’s not feeling well, even if you know, of course well visits are fun, but even if someone\u2019s sick, if they’re not feeling well they’re still, they’re happy and you just feed off of that and kids get well, you know, most of the time, kids are pretty healthy, they bounce back from things and so that’s rewarding too, and that’s fun too. You get to kind of, you know, go through the things with them and then they seem well and they’re happy and it’s fun too because you watch them grow, like I\u2019ve only been here seven months but I\u2019m already seeing my newborn visits, you know, now they’re coming in now for their six-month visits and it’s just fun. It’s fun to watch them grow and you get to see all of that growth as opposed to like adult medicine, maybe you’re coming in and they’ve already kind of been established and you know it\u2019s who we are as adults and it\u2019s fun to see the kids and watch them grow and they\u2019re just fun, there’s always something.
