Ronnie Wilson:<\/strong><\/p>\n I\u2019m going to give you a couple of questions here. Let’s pretend you’ve reached the end of your work day. What’s your typical time that you wind up truly finishing and now you’re heading home?<\/p>\n Dr. Luke Bonnet:<\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s variable. 5:30, 6:00, 6:30. Some days it\u2019s 5:00, 5:15. It\u2019s just so variable, so much so that I can\u2019t really commit to evening things because the last patient can be a very sick child needing lots of attention.<\/p>\n Ronnie Wilson:<\/strong><\/p>\n So let’s say that you finish your work day and now you look back across that work day. What are the thoughts, feelings, or reflections that you hope to have when, at the end of each work day, you look back on the day? What are you hoping those thoughts and outcomes were?<\/p>\n Dr. Luke Bonnett:<\/strong><\/p>\n Mostly every day, at the end of the day, I look back and I ask myself, \u201cDid I make a difference?\u201d<\/p>\n I’m looking at just the span of the day. Who came in? Whose lives were touched? What kind of care was given? How could I have treated that patient better or that parent better? Did I show the frustrations I may have been feeling? Did I seem hurried when I know I was hurried? Those are the kind of thoughts, reflective thoughts thinking, “Did I care for them the way that I would of wanted to be treated or the way that I would of wanted my own child to be treated?”<\/p>\n And sometimes end of the day reflections, in my mind, necessitate me calling a family and just saying, \u201cHow are they doing or are there any questions that you had?,\u201d because I recognize that I may have been hurried. Did I take the time that they needed even though I may feel that I provided the care that they needed?
