If I had children, what are the things that I want to have circulating in my brain – as far as age triggers, sequence triggers, that kind of thing? Let’s say that I had a wife who’s pregnant right now and we just discovered that. What are our sequence triggers – what’s the chronology – that we want to be thinking about: let’s say from right now to eighteen or whatever when you going to turn the care over to a GP or family practitioner?

Dr. Luke Bonnett:

Sure, fair question. So parents often times are asking what to expect, you know, “What are we looking forward to as parents?” I always tell mom, I always say “All you have to do is have the baby.” and kind of say that, you know, laughingly. But once the baby’s born, everything unfolds. A large part of what we do as pediatricians is education and so we’re always entertaining questions. We know what frequently asked questions are; so we’re always going through those with parents. That could be at a prenatal appointment where a parent wants to come in and meet us and we’re able to answer a lot of questions there. Again often times, [we’re] offering the level of reassurance that we’ve been through this before and we can help hold the parents’ hand through the process. So when questions arise we always answer those; but it typically is the same process for all. So once the baby is born, the baby is cared for in the hospital for a few days – and typically it’s a well child and they’re discharged home to then follow up with us in a few days. Then once they get here to the office – of course we’re always reviewing all of the birth information, making sure nothing was missed, quite frankly – because at that point, it’s incumbent upon us to offer excellent care and so we’re responsible at that point. A large part of what’s happening in the first two years of life is frequent well visits. There is a 2-week check, a 2-month, 4-month, 6-month, 9-month, and so forth. And at each of those, we are monitoring a child’s growth or monitoring their development – and we’re always doing thorough exams to make sure that we’re not missing anything. Sometimes parents don’t – they haven’t been through it before – they don’t know what they’re looking at and, so again, we do. And so we’re looking for things that the parent might not even be aware would be a concern. And so again the education piece is: we’re always encouraging parents to do things to promote good development, we’re always going over the child’s nutritional needs, and then again we’re always encouraging just from an emotional well-being stability – of offering that child a good nurturing environment and encouraging their parent along those lines. We’re also looking at the health of the parent and making sure that they are doing okay. Our care is restricted to the child but there are times when we have to encourage the parent sometimes to seek care for themselves — so we’re always trying to observe for that as well. But a pediatrician typically takes care of a child from birth through college. Some pediatricians limit the care to eighteen years old; we typically, in this practice, see children through college, understanding that a child could be home – or at that point an adult, a young adult, would be home – for spring break, for a Christmas break, or for a summer break … being able to meet their health care needs during those times as well.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Ronnie Wilson, founder of People I Love, penned the following:

As is the case with all professions, some people in each field stand out as stellar. Such is the case with Dr. Luke Bonnett.

A number of things make Luke stellar. His demeanor? Yes. His professionalism? Yes. His excellence in care? Yes. His grasp and mastery of his field? Again, yes – and a lot more yeses could be inserted. But this brief video profoundly demonstrates Dr. Bonnett’s stellar ability to explain in clear lingo the key items and sequence of care that each child needs.

Dr. Bonnett’s sense of scope and sequence flow effortlessly from his mind. That effortlessness hasn’t arrived without investing years upon years of intense effort. He knows children! He knows parents! And he provides care for children and aid to parents at an elite level.

So sit back and take a look – and a listen. You’ll be glad you apprised yourself by gaining insights and expressions from a bona fide leader in his field.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image
