Ronnie Wilson:

Ok so how long have you been a part of this practice now? You and Luke are the two doctors and then you have two nurse practitioners. How long have you been a part of this practice?

Dr. Jerri Lynn Shealy:

So I think this will be my 8th year here at Chapin Pediatrics.

Ronnie Wilson:

Okay what was the compelling or the propelling thing that made you say “Wow, I want to transition from where I am almost eight years ago to where I am now”. What was that factor or what were those factors, those ingredients?

Dr. Jerri Lynn Shealy:

Well one was it’s closer to my home which is great. So we live in Little Mountain and just part of my community, I love taking care of family and friends, and those folks that are in my community. So that was definitely one strong advantage. The other is that Dr. Bonnett has wonderful practice here, he is very highly regarded and he runs a Christian practice and I was very attracted to that.

Ronnie Wilson:

You mentioned that he’s highly regarded obviously he is, just to let you know and you probably know this to you, Jay, and Lauren are all highly regarded as well. Seriously, it’s unbelievable the regard that patients express and people in the community about the four of you and I know Lauren has been here just a handful of months at this point, I think 5 months or something like that but even in that short time people esteem her and people esteem you and have in the community for a long time and Luke as well and obviously Jay. So you guys really have the accolades expressed by folks you serve. That’s pretty impressive frankly.

Dr. Jerri Lynn Shealy:

Thank you very much.

Ronnie Wilson:

What is it about the arena of Pediatrics that lured you?

Dr. Jerri Lynn Shealy:

I had a very difficult time choosing between pediatrics and family practice, but God knew where to put me. Everyday I come to work and everyday when I walk in that room you never know what these kids are gonna say. They make me laugh, sometimes they make me cry, but kids are just fun. They make our work fun and  kids are resilient. Ninety-nine percent of the time they get better and it’s very rewarding to see them back and know that you helped them get better.

Ronnie Wilson:

And how many children do you guys have your own?

Dr. Jerri Lynn Shealy:

I have three.

Ronnie Wilson:

Ages?

Dr. Jerri Lynn Shealy:

We have a 16 year old boy and 14 year old girl twins, so they keep us very busy.

Ronnie Wilson:

Okay what about Luke, you mentioned that he’s regarded, that you regard so highly yourself, working with him in a professional context? So your friends and your colleagues, what is it about him that causes you, what attributes or characteristics about him cause you to regard so highly?

Dr. Jerri Lynn Shealy:

His heart is in his job. He takes such good care of his patients but he also takes really good care of his employees, and so it’s a great place to work. We have fun, we get along.  He’s just a great person to work for. He is also extremely generous. He brings us coffees, he brings us food, he brings us treats, so it’s a great place to work.
