What is a Nurse Practitioner?

People are choosing Nurse Practitioners (NPs) as their primary, acute and/or specialty healthcare provider.

In addition to being a top-notch healthcare provider, an NP is Your Partner in Health delivering a unique blend of nursing and medical care. NPs assist patients in making better lifestyle and healthcare decisions.

NPs have differentiated themselves from other healthcare providers by focusing on the whole person when treating specific health problems, as well as educating their patients on the effects those problems will have on them, their loved ones and their communities.

By providing both high-quality care and health counseling, NPs can lower the cost of health care for patients. For example, patients with NPs as their primary care providers have fewer instances of emergency room visits, shorter hospital stays and often have lower medication costs. This can be attributed to the fact that NPs partner with patients for their health and provide essential information so patients know when early intervention is needed.

An NP is Your Partner in Health providing high-quality primary, acute and specialty healthcare services similar to those of a physician. NPs have graduate, advanced education, with master’s degrees or doctorates. All NPs have advanced clinical training beyond their initial professional registered nurse preparation. They bring a unique perspective to health services in that they place emphasis on both care and cure. NPs diagnose and manage acute episodic and chronic illness. NPs also focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and health education and counseling, guiding patients to make smarter health and lifestyle choices.

  • NPs practice under the rules and regulations of the state in which they are licensed
  • NPs are nationally certified in their specialty areas
  • NPs are recognized as expert healthcare providers
  • NPs provide healthcare services in all states and in many other countries around the world
  • NPs can prescribe in all 50 states and the District of Columbia

Why do we mention this? We have a special announcement to our patients and this community that Chapin Pediatrics, beginning in late April, will have a full-time Nurse Practioner available to serve your little one’s healthcare needs.

“I went into health care because the human body is a work of art and is direct proof that there is an amazing God. I wanted to be a practitioner to be part of families and help raise/care for their children throughout their lives–the idea of the old family doctor who would really care for you even if that just meant listening to you. And it is this family concept that really excites me about coming to Chapin Pediatrics.  My family is my life and you would want to get to know and embrace my family not just me.  This means the world to me.”
